Institutional Shadow Bodies in Mental Health Care Information Seeking

Research on barriers to mental health care access in Philadelphia.

As part of our City Wide Bed Board initiative, we conducted research with mental health care providers in Philadelphia. Using semi-structured interviews, we wanted to understand the barriers that local providers experience in trying to locate mental health care resources for clients.  We use the theory of shadow bodies as a framework for understanding the ways routinized information flows fail to capture the messiness, complexity and context of mental health care needs.

You can read the short paper here. A longer version of this research is forthcoming at Information Research.
